Objective vs Subjective Truth

Objective truth is, simply put, the truth. Regardless of an individual’s feelings or beliefs, it never changes. God created the heavens and the earth. There are only two genders. The earth is round.

Subjective truth is whatever an individual feels or believes. Some people don’t believe there is a God, some believe in different gods. Some people with XX chromosomes believe they are males, some people with XY chromosomes believe they are females. Some people believe the earth is flat.

Subjective truth is a dangerous thing. Because it’s subjective, it changes based off of each individual and it can change often. The only constant thing about subjective truth is that it is constantly changing. It’s dangerous because it has no limits. Some people believe that they have no gender, or that they are the opposite gender. Some people believe that they are a different species, a different age, a different race. And some people believe that they are actually disabled, even though they have abled bodies.

With subjective truth, anyone can be anything at any time. You may believe that there is no harm in that. There is no harm in a male believing that they were born in the wrong body. They should be able to change their gender, and be respected. What about someone who believes that they were meant to be born blind? Or the person who feels like they should have been born unable to walk, so they pretend to need a wheelchair? How do you feel about the people who alter their appearance to be a completely different race? What will you do when an adult identifies as a young child, just so that they can be around young children and abuse them? What about people who identify as a stranger’s lover or husband? You see, subjective truth is wide open to every individual, and you can either support everyone’s subjective truth, or you support none.

Objective truth never wavers. It has limits. Feelings do not matter when it comes to the objective truth, nor do beliefs. You can depend on it. The objective truth hurts sometimes, it’s uncomfortable, and annoying, but I much prefer it to creating and catering to mine or anyone else’s subjective truth. What about you?
