Imagine being a young virgin woman, engaged to a young man, and you become pregnant. Your story only gets crazier, because it involves an angel coming down to tell you that you will become pregnant with the Son of God. It’s a supernatural conception.
Welcome to Mary’s story. Who was Mary, that God chose her of all women to bear His one and only Son? There isn’t a whole lot on her, but we do know that she was from a humble background. This was a woman who was not of royal lineage, she was average. One thing Mary had was her faith. Faith is what gets average people chosen for spectacular roles. She was strong in her faith, and she was brave. What a heavy burden she had. Not only did she have to tell Joseph her wild story, but her family, and his as well. She was humbled by Gods choice, and I’d bet that she was terrified. She gave birth to the Son of God, she raised Him, and she at some point had to remember that Jesus was not just her Son, but God’s as well. She had to let go in ways she didn’t have to with her and Josephs children. She watched as the world rejected her Son. She watched as they persecuted, condemned, and crucified her Son. What an incredible source of strength, and faith.
Our faith is what makes things possible. God looks not for Kings and Queens, but for those who believe in Him, and fear Him. When we walk with God, we can defeat armies 10 times our size, we can take down giants with a pebble and a slingshot. We can carry unimaginable burdens.
