Mary Magdalene

While there are many more amazing women in the Bible, I’m ending this series with Mary Magdalene.

When Jesus arose from the dead, He didn’t seek out one of His apostles. He didn’t wait for the next man to come along and show Himself to. It was a woman named Mary Magdalene. Now Mary is mentioned in a few places, she loved Jesus, she was a witness to His crucifixion, but for this post I’m focused only on this one moment, found in John 20.

Mary was at Jesus’ tomb, crying. Crying for her Lord, and crying because His body was missing. She looks into the empty tomb, to find two angels sitting where Jesus’ body had been laid. They asked her why she was crying, and she responded with, ” They have taken my Lord away, and I don’t know where they have put Him.” She turned around and saw Jesus. At the moment she didn’t know it was Him, though. He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?” She said, “Sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you have put Him, and I will get Him.” Jesus says, “Mary.” It’s at that moment that He first shows Himself to anyone after His death. He chose a woman for that incredibly impactful, emotional moment. Can you imagine her joy?

Women are chosen for all sorts of different, important roles. We aren’t just moms and wives, sometimes we’re leaders. I always expected to live a quiet life, as a housewife only. Imagine my surprise when God leads me to be more outspoken, to be a voice for Truth. Fake Christians are blind to the truth, and they will tell you your purpose is to be a good, submissive, stay at home mom/housewife. These people don’t know the Bible, they don’t know God. Don’t listen to them. Seek God, find your purpose, and show them who God is. Show them who you are. Who knows, maybe you’re the next Esther.
