A few months ago, I heard a woman talk about how women are truth-tellers. The way she was talking made it seem that if you have a vagina, you are automatically a truthful person. More people, than I care to admit, believe this. I started taking notice when #MeToo was going on. Here are the facts:

Women lie. We are humans, not perfect beings. Some of us lie about things such as, our natural hair color, or age and weight. Some women lie about objectively awful things such as, rape, domestic violence, and having cancer. I have personally known two women who have lied about being raped. One spread the lie that a family member raped her. When confronted with the truth, she shrugged her shoulders and said, ‘oops’. The other one was never confronted, because I was actually raped by the person she was accusing, and I was too involved in my own grief to care.

Do you remember the Duke lacrosse case? Crystal Mangum accused three males on the lacrosse team of rape in 2006. December of last year, she admitted it was all false. She was never raped by them. Women like Amanda Riley, and Annabelle Gibson lie about having cancer. Evil doesn’t care about gender, it just needs a willing host.

We should never just blindly believe anyone, male or female. People lie for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes it’s to take down someone they hate, sometimes it’s because they love the limelight. Whatever the reason, it’s our job to remain objective, and pay attention. Liars have inconsistencies in their stories. They are also big on eye contact, especially making eye contact with the one they’re accusing. They tend to overshare, as they believe that giving more information will make them appear more truthful. Listen to people talk, and watch their body language.

#MeToo came from the right place, but it gave horrible, manipulative people the chance to jump on the bandwagon, spread lies, and ruin lives. That makes the lives of legitimate victims, that much harder. #BelieveAllWomen is just ridiculous. Never believe someone just because of their gender, that’s foolish.
