Terms and Conditions pt 16

In order to build a strong, lasting, intimate relationship with God, we have to realize that He has terms and conditions. Like any good parent, He loves us enough not to spoil us. Sure, He is more than capable of answering all our prayers, completely taking away all our burdens, and letting us just live worry and stress free. We could be effortlessly rich, and have everything we could ever possibly want. But what good would that be?

I developed debilitating anxiety when driving, not too long ago. Every time I got behind the wheel, I would breakout in a cold sweet, my throat felt like it was closing up, my heart would pound, and I felt like I was going to die. It was terrifying, embarrassing, and irritating. I prayed that God would just take it away. I had no doubt that He could, but He didn’t. What He did do was give me tools to handle it with Him. He could have completely taken away my anxiety, but what good would that have done? I would have learned nothing, and there would be no room for personal or spiritual growth. I have many other examples of asking Him to take something away, or do something for me, and He has responded with ‘No, but…’

God wants us to rely on Him for everything, He wants us to come to Him for everything, but He wants us to be active participants. He has the power to do far more than we can even imagine, but because He loves us, He doesn’t want to spoil us. He wants us to grow closer to Him, and He wants us to grow as individuals. Growth can only take place with work.

Go to God for everything. Go to Him with humility, and eagerness to hear how He wants you to participate in what you’re asking of Him. Doing this will bring you closer to Him.
